Q: Do I have to take my car to my insurance company claim center before I bring it to the repair shop?
A: Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center before having your car repaired. You can do this, or may leave your car at your collision repair shop and ask that the insurance company inspect the car there.
Q: Do I need to get more than one estimate?
A: You are not required by lay to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal.
Q: Am I required to go to the repair shop suggested by my insurance company?
A: You have the right to go to the repair shop of your choice. Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop.
Q: Why do I have 2 completely different priced estimates?
A: Difference in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work. If you're not sure why one estimate is different from another you've received, as the shop manager.
Q: WHat should I look for in a collision repair center?
A: Choose a shop that has uni-body repair equipment and certified (by I-CAR or ASE, for example) technician. Ask if the shop will be using genuine manufacturer (OEM) replacement parts. Ask if the shop offers a repair warranty.
Q: Can I get help from the collision repair center in making my claim?
A. Yes. Let the collision repair shop you choose help you negotiate your claim with the insurance company, this often leads to a better deal.
